ABOUT ME
My name is Ben Fishbeck, and I am pursuing a Math Education Degree at the University of Mary. I began my journey at Bismarck State College, where I acquired my Associates degree. I will graduate from the University of Mary with my bachelors degree in the Spring of 2022. Outside of school, I enjoy being very active by hanging out with my friends and being out in nature.
I grew up in Mandan, N.D. I have an older brother and sister, a new sister-in-law, and recently born niece! I currently live on a ranch outside of Mandan. This has had a major role in sparking my interests: hunting, automotive work, and enjoying nature.
Education is a big part of my life since both my parents work in the education field, and I teach swim lessons and lifeguard. While teaching, it was rewarding to see kids grow, develop, and succeed at swimming. I observed that the kids were scared of the water and could not swim. While teaching them, it brought me joy to see the kids overcome their struggles because of my impact. Similarly, after tutoring many of my peers in mathematics, I loved to see that 'Aha' moment when they finally made a connection in the content. This has had a major impact on me to wanting to become a teacher. I fell in love with helping people and teaching.
I then fell in love with mathematics due to its beauty. It amazed me that you can take logical steps and actions that will conclude results that I believed would not connect. Mathematics is like a tree, it is constantly growing like the branches and leaves, as well as being defined stronger at the core, like the roots and trunk. Mathematics will advance forward in time to develop into new areas, and expand on concepts with what are already discovered/defined. Mathematics will never be satisfied with what it already has proved. Mathematics is constantly evolving, growing, and developing, just like me.
I am a hunter, outdoor enthusiast, and a car fanatic, but most importantly, I am a mathematician and an educator.
